Marcus Limpar-Lantz sent the Sarnia Sting (16-9-4-2) to the holiday break in a festive mood scoring the game winning goal at 12:27 of the third period to help beat the Flint Firebirds (16-12-2-1) 4-3, Friday night at the Dort Financial Center, in Flint, Michigan.

Chandler Romeo (Ottawa Senators) assisted on the goal along with Marko Sikic. Romeo also scored his first goal of the season as part of a two-point night.

Sasha Pastujov (Anaheim Ducks) and Christian Kyrou (Dallas Stars) had a goal and an assist each.

Another stellar night in goal for Nicholas Surzycia as he stopped 31 of 34 shots including all 11 shots in the final period.

The first period was a tight checking affair with only one goal. Amadeus Lombardi (Detroit Red Wings) lit the lamp at 10:06 from Tristan Bertucci and Dmitry Kuzmin (Winnipeg Jets). Flint out-shot Sarnia 12-11.

Play opened up in the second period as the two teams combined to score five goals to finish the middle stanza tied 3-3. The Firebirds went ahead early as Riley Piercey scored unassisted at 1:52. The Firebirds appeared to score again but the play went under review and was disallowed because of goaltending interference.

That changed the momentum around in Sarnia’s favor and they came storming back with three straight goals. Pastujov scored his 20th of the season on a rebound past goaltender Nathan Day. Nolan Dillingham with his third assist this season and Kyrou with his first assist as a member of the Sting. The goal came at 10:42.

Romeo scored his first goal of the campaign picking up a loose puck just outside of the left face-off circle and let go a wrist shot that found the back of the net at 15:01. Pastujov and Voit drew the assists. 72 seconds later Sarnia went ahead for the first time in the game as Kyro and MacDonell broke free on a two on nothing rush and Kyro finished things off scoring at 16:13.

The Firebirds tied the game at 17:46 on Lombardi second goal of the game from Braeden Kressler (Toronto Maple Leafs). Sarnia out-shot Flint 17-11.
