Sting Eliminate Spitfires In Five
Windsor, ON – The Sarnia Sting went into the Windsor Arena on Thursday night with the opportunity to advance to the second round on the line.
The Sting would prevail in what would be a hard fought game by both sides and would require extra time to determine a winner.
At 17:21 of the first overtime session it would be playoff veteran Devin DiDiomete who would step in over the Spitfire blueline and let go a rocket of a shot that would elude Spitfire goaltender Andrew Engelage and would send the Sting to the second round of the OHL playoffs on the strength of a 4-3 win, taking the series 4-1.
Justin DiBenedetto, Jared Gomes and Matt Martin would be the other Sting goal scorers while goaltender Andrew Perugini made 51 saves continuing his outstanding play all series long.
Also of note Captain Ryan Wilson had two assists and was named the games first star.
The Sting will now get set to face the Kitchener Rangers in the second round with the dates to be released shortly.
The SSEC box office will be closed on Saturday to regroup and get set for the second round. Season ticket holders will have Monday from 9am – 5pm to purchase tickets with game tickets then going on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday at 9:00am.
