The Sarnia Sting were absolutely buzzing when they travelled North to face off against the Soo Greyhounds at GFL Memorial Gardens. The second game of a three in three weekend which saw Sarnia lose to the Niagara IceDogs at home on Friday night 5-2. The Soo presented quite a challenge in their last game against the Sting, beating them at home 5-2 last Sunday.

The Sting came out and tried to stifle the Greyhounds offensive opportunities. Ethan Langevin made some big saves in the first keeping the game scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game. Alex Johnston opened the scoring for the Greyhounds and Sarnia had to dig deep in order to rebound.

Ryan McGregor tried to bring the Sting even but hit the wrong side of the post. Alex Johnston gets sent off for 2 minutes for holding an opponent’s stick and the Sting make the Soo pay by a goal from Jacob Perreault off a feed from Sean Josling. With under 10 seconds left in the period, a strange bounce off the end glass finds Jamieson Rees out front and he gives Sarnia the lead entering the second period.

Entering the second period with a lead, the Sting don’t ease up on the pressure and force the Greyhounds to play in their own end. Joe Mack follows up on an opportunity out front of the net and increases the lead to two goals. Brayden Guy is sent in on a breakaway by Ty Voit and he scores his fifth of the season with 8 minutes left in the second frame. Ryan McGregor and Jacob Perreault are sent in on a 2 on 0 and after a nice passing play McGregor scores; giving Perreault his second point of the night. Rory Kerins scored for the Soo with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd period to give them some hope.

Ryan Roth would strike on the powerplay in his first game back in the Soo after being traded to the Sting earlier this season. Jamieson Rees breaks into the zone, fakes the shot, and roofs it over Soo goaltender Bailey Brkin, but after an offside review the goal is disallowed.  Jacob Holmes puts the Soo back on the board and cuts the lead to 6-3 with under 5 remaining in the third period. The Greyhounds pulled their goalie early to try and tie the game but Jacob Perreault fights of the defender and fires it into the goalmouth to put the game out of reach with 4 minutes left in the third.  Nolan Dillingham scores his second career goal in back to back games to cap off an 8-3 for Sarnia.

The boys are back in action today as they travel to Flint to take on the Firebirds before returning home on Friday December 6th for our annual Teddy Bear Toss Game; a game you surely won’t want to miss!
