Sarnia, ON General Manager Alan Millar announced this morning the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has completed a pair of deals with the Barrie Colts acquiring All-Star goaltender Andrew Perugini and Colts leading scorer Vladimir Nikiforov.
In exchange the Colts receive, back up goaltender Peter DiSalvo, defenceman Dalton Prout, a 2nd round pick in 2008, a 2nd round pick in 2009, a 4th round pick in 2008 and a conditional draft pick in 2011.
Perugini a native of King City, is one of the top goaltenders in the OHL as evidence in the numbers he posted during the 2006-2007 season. Perugini ranked 2nd in wins (40), finished in the top five in goals against average (2.83), save percentage (.917), and shutouts (4). In recognition of his outstanding season Perugini was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team.
This season Perugini is having another stellar season as he currently ranks 5th in the OHL with a .917 save percentage and has two shutouts on the season.
Nikiforov, born in Lithuania but a resident of Long Island, NY, is the 8th leading scorer in the OHL this season with 21 goals and 32 assists in 36 games. His 53 points leads the Colts by 27 over then the next closest scorer on the team (Alex Hutchings 26 points). Nikiforov has recorded at least 50 points in all three seasons in the OHL and had 95 points playing Jr. B in New York prior to joining the league.
BERARD THEN DEALT TO COLTS
With the Sting’s acquisition of Nikiforov the club had 4 overage (1987 born) players on its roster, therefore in a separate move, Millar announced the team has dealt forward Ryan Berard to the Colts in exchange for Barrie’s 6th round choice in 2008.
