GAME REPORT | Sting & Hounds Battle to OT, Soo Takes 4-3 Decision

The Sarnia Sting hosted the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday night.

It was the second meeting between the West division rivals in two weeks. In their first matchup back on October 27, the Sting prevailed with a 6-3 victory. Tonight, the Greyhounds were out for revenge.

The Soo emerged with a 4-3 overtime victory. Justin Fazio was a star in goal for the Sting, but the Hounds took round two of the Best in the West.

Through one period, the Greyhounds had a 2-0 lead. Barrett Hayton scored on a goal which was deemed to not have involved goaltender interference on Fazio. And with just a second remaining in the first, Morgan Frost put the Hounds up two.

In the second, Anthony Salinitri returned the favour, scoring forty-six seconds in. Salinitri scored on a powerplay goal that seemed to have eyes of its own. The puck found its way through Soo goalie Matthew Villalta, and the Sting were on the board.

Frost scored his second of the game for the Soo midway through the middle frame. It was shortly after when the Sting would begin to take charge of this contest.

Drake Rymsha made it a 3-2 game when his shot from close range was redirected in the Soo net by one of their own defencemen. They all count, and the Sting could feel the tide turning.

In the third, Salinitri brought Sting fans to their feet, tying the game at 3-3 with just a few minutes to go. Salinitri went top shelf on Villalta, and the game was off to overtime.

The Soo were able to score the evening’s final goal in the extra frame. Jack Kopacka scored fifty-seconds in and the Greyhounds left Sarnia with a narrow 4-3 victory.

Fazio made some massive saves for the Sting tonight, including a big-time breakaway stop on Boris Katchouk in the second period. Kyrou extended his OHL points lead to 40 with assists on all three Sting goals.
