GAME REPORT | Sting Fall 6-3 to Greyhounds in Battle of OHL’s Best

The Sarnia Sting visited the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Wednesday night. It was a heated battle between the top two teams in the Ontario Hockey League.

After being ranked as the top team in the Canadian Hockey League earlier in the day, the Hounds were fired up for this one tonight. The Sting were caught a little flat-footed, taking a 6-3 loss at the Essar Centre.

However, tonight marked an incredible milestone for Sting goalie Justin Fazio. Starting his 148th game in a Sting uniform, Fazio became the franchise’s all-time leader in games played by a goaltender.

The Sting congratulate Fazio on this outstanding achievement and wish continued success in many more starts to come this season.

In the first period of tonight’s action, Tim Gettinger opened the scoring for the Soo. Gettinger used a tough wrist shot to send to puck into the top of the cage.

Not long after, Hugo Leufvenius picked up Sarnia’s first goal of the night. Leufvenius made a power move in the slot and fired home the Sting’s response.

Sault Ste. Marie added two quick goals to end the first period. They led 3-1 heading into intermission.

In the second, the Soo carried the pace of play. Ryan Roth scored his eighth of the year for the Hounds.

With bragging rights on the line in the third, the game became a hard-hitting contest. Brett Jacklin and Morgan Frost scored a couple more for the home side.

Anthony Salinitri gave the Sting some late momentum, streaking through the Greyhound’s defence to score a nifty goal with three minutes to play. It was Salinitri’s thirteenth of the year.

Feeling inspired by Salinitri’s efforts, Leufvenius scored his second of the game one minute later. This goal also came as Leufvenius’s thirteenth of the season. Ultimately, the Sting ran out of time, falling by a final score of 6-3.
