GAME REPORT | OSH 7 | SAR 4

The Sarnia Sting hosted the Oshawa Generals on Friday evening.

Before the game, we held an opening ceremony with the Salvation Army. Their annual kettle drive has kicked off, and we were proud to have made the first donation on the ice tonight.

With the game underway, Generals forward Nando Eggenberger opened the scoring. Eggenberger took a quick shot off a faceoff, sending his ninth goal of the season past Sarnia goalie Ethan Langevin.

Quick to respond, the Sting found offence from just who one would expect: the man himself, Kelton Hatcher. The defenceman joined a shorthanded rush with forward Calvin Martin, and Martin set up Hatcher for a wide open two-on-one beauty. It was Hatcher’s third of the season.

Allan McShane and Eggenberger scored once more for Oshawa before the end of the first. The Gens held a 3-1 lead.

In the second period, Sting captain Ryan McGregor brought us within one. With the Sting on the powerplay, McGregor unleashed a wrister from atop the right circle. It flew past Generals goalie Kyle Keyser to make it a 3-2 game.

Then, time for a cool moment.

Sting defenceman Ashton Reesor scored his first career Ontario Hockey League goal. McGregor set up Reesor for a huge blast from the point and the Markham, Ontario native made no mistake. 3-3.

Just when it looked like the second period was done, there were two quick goals in the last thirty seconds. Oshawa forward Nick Wong gave the visitors a 4-3 lead, but it only lasted about fifteen ticks of the clock.

Sarnia’s leading goal-scorer, Hugo Leufvenius, replied instantly. Leufvenius scored of an offensive faceoff for his eleventh of the season. After two, were were once again tied, this time at 4-4.

In the third period, the Generals grabbed the wheel. Wong scored his second of the night; Eggenberger picked up his third; and Gens captain Jack Studnicka finished things off with an empty-net goal.

Tonight’s final score was 7-4. The official box score can be viewed here.
